Concept / pre-visualization: Scylla attacks Odysseus' ship

From 'The Odyssey' - Odysseus and his crew pass through a narrow straight between high cliffs on their way back from the Trojan war.

On one side of the straight is the whirlpool 'Charybdis', and in a cave on the opposite cliff lives the six headed sea monster 'Scylla'.

Concept / pre-visualization: Scylla attacks the Odyssey - Sketchup previs

As usual when I've got time to really work up an image, I've done a rough pre-vis in 'SketchUp' to lock down my composition.
I'm going to paint over this, so a lot of the fine details will be decided then.
Thanks to '3D warehouse' for the placeholder man model, and parts of the ballista on the prow.

Thanks to everyone above who replied - glad you like the sketch. I hope I can carry that though the finished illustration.

@leigh - Thanks! I kind of missed the point of the last CG challenge I entered, and the final image suffered as a result. I wanted to make sure that didn't happen this time.

@mordecaidesign - Cheers mate. You're entering too, right?

@seili - Lighting is one of the things I really love painting. I just need to work my figure drawing up to the same level...

Enjoy.

Work In Progress: Painting work in progress

Starting to paint in the primary elements. Still to figure out where the soldiers on deck are going to go, and a whole lot of detail, haze, smoke and vfx to add.
