If i replace MR with vRay will I have to learn 3ds max again?

no no i trust masterzap that the next version is a time killer. My tools are only snakeoil, we must wait of the new mental ray Version with MILA, and i see the Vray Guys must pay for each Rendernode. You come back to the roots.

I use both MR & Vray and I Master Zap is right. Light is light etc. and almost everything learned using MR is applicable to Vray. You even have to pre-cache light for animations in a similar way. Though now that I am digging around Vray 3 I'm actually a little concerned for future new users as they seem to be trying to dumb things down with the "Basic", "intermediate" and "Expert" setting toggles. The presets seem pretty useless as well. I mean, you are way better off fighting through learning how to setup your renders than rely on some engine presets! I love all the other new features though! Not wild about paying for the nodes on my farm, that one took my by surprise. MR now has a big advantage there. That and it's bundled to begin with. Oh right, so "Relearn Max"? No. Just adapting existing knowledge to some new tools really.

I have invested a LOT of time into MR and i only regret it. If you have chance to work with/afford Vray, then go for it. It does not make sense to use a renderer that has been standing still development-wise for nearly 3 years now.

And do not trust nVidia a word, when it comes to future of MR, because they never ever deliver. Future of MR is very grim, and is on the same rails Brazil r/s was bunch of years ago.
