Rigging question

Hi there.

Let's say you used the character object to make a biped rig and you adjusted and weighted it all, including the fingers, on your mesh.

Now, let's say you want to move the adjustment point for the wrist. So you switch back to adjustment mode and move the wrist point to its new position. The problem is that all of the children points of the wrist move with it.

How can you move one of the adjustment points on the character object rig without moving all of its children?

Thanks,

Joe.

The same way you would move a parent without it's children, which is by holding the 7 key as you move.

However, this only works for physical parents/children. Some adjustment handles are not physical in their relationships. They may be controlled via constraints or other magic. If that's the case, then there is unfortunately not any way to do it.

What I have typically done is create nulls at the adjustment handles, and then I can snap them back to those nulls if they get moved.

Hi Bret,

The 7 key technique seems to work on many of the adjustment points such as the elbow and many other points/joints. That is good.

However, for some reason, it is not working on the wrist (L_NB_IK_Wrist_Tip). When you try to move that one (with the 7 key or without) it moves all the finger joints.

Does the same happen for you?

Joe.

proabably constraints as Bret mentioned before.

Probably.

Thanks Kai.

By probably, that means most definitely. If 7 doesn't work, that is why.
