Talking Steampunk reference images request

Greetings. I am trying to make some steampunk / clockwork buildings for a college project but the internet has failed me to provide decent reference images and tutorials to get started. Gears are overdetailed and totally impractical. This gear is the best one I have found so far yet no tutorial or any help how to make it:

I would be looking for pretty much everything: how to properly make worn metal (like in the above link), proper lighting for everything to look steampunk but not unattractive garbage, pipes, boilers, moving mechanical things, plates to obscure some of it. Pretty much set on buildings, no vehicles or characters. Also since steam is made with water and fire, perhaps some furnace / coal / fire help.

For example this wallpaper looks fantastic and I am going for this style:

Here is some more nice metal

Like, its not medieval steampunk, but like 2000 steampunk

Thank you for your help in advance and I apologize if I didn't put in the right subforum. its a huge website.

P.S. I am by no means near being professional 3d artist but I have passed through most linda tutorials and know how to model something, get I fail to find and know what I am looking for.

You would want to use textures for most of the color, wear and tear, scratches, small details, etc.

and for that you need a 2d paint program. like GIMP or photoshop

as far as tutorials, there really isn't much out there. I make most of my own textures from scratch in PS, unless i need something really high res. I would look at getting brushes from deviant , you can use the free ones until you get the hang of making your own.

the 3d aspect would just be the basic structure.

as for steampunk references, I just started modeling a steam punk car from just a side pic,

reference images are also fairly hard to come by, but you can try

I found the perfect artwork, I would need some guidance on this particular scene setup / modeling technique. Perhaps some sort of a tutorial pack on making this sort of thing? I can see myself adapting these vehicles and weapons into buildings.

Thank you

you wont find a perfect guide for that, but i would look for something similar, like a tank or even a truck.

you can check out digital tutors, a good place to start, or the autodesk documentation has some really good tutorials iirc. and ofc youtube.

What are you trying to model for, a game? a animated scene? those links look very low poly, so you can check out some texture baking techniques in max, to model something high poly and low poly and transfer the small detail and bump map from the high poly to the low poly.

Also look into retopology
