Environment: "The Archway"

My first image post, woohoo!

I started this one for the Alienware challenge, but after seeing some WIPs from others, I decided not to enter the challenge. And then I worked a bit more on it to have a finished image.

All in all, it has become an experiment with procedural texturing.

Here's the image:

I like the idea alot, it's interesting, it sort of looks like an organic cave/alien interior thing to me. I think first off, you should tone-down the gi or add colors to the light, even adding a color filter for the light bouncing (like a grey-blue) would help alot in adding some contrast to the scene. at the moment it just looks a little too sterile for the environment. secondly, I think there should be more specularity. a surface like the columns definately seems like it should be specular, even if it's just at glancing angles. you could try and add a falloff/fresnel reflection map or put a sidefade/falloff map in the specular channel of the material, that might be interesting, but I whatever you do with the specularity I'd keep the glossiness up around 80-90. third, I think you should add more to the procedural textures, like maybe a secondary, smaller noise map in the color channels of the map you have, it would do alot to help with realism and detail. lastly, I think, apart from darkening the scene a little and adding color, some glow effects would do wonders for the atmosphere, maybe a soft diffused glow on the whole scene and then glows on the lights.

with a little tweaking I think this scene would be alot more like what you're wanting to go for, and has the potential to be a really cool image.
