Quick Tip for those on Autodesk Subscription
I wanted to share a quick tip for anyone who has licences on Autodesk subscription, specifically the 'Media & Entertainment' Software - 3ds Max, Maya, Mudbox, XSI, etc).
If you are a subscription customer you are probably aware your yearly fee entitles you to 25GB cloud storage. This could be very handy, BUT 3ds Max, Maya, etc users can only access their 25GB storage via an Autodesk web interface. This sync website is really slow and cumbersome. It's very slow to upload files or try to sort things into folders. You basically can't use it!
Well, there is an alternative - the sync desktop app!
Autodesk CAD users (Autocad, inventor, etc) have access to the 'sync desktop app.'
It's a small app that you can download and install, just like the 'dropbox desktop app', for example. With the sync deskop app installed, you can access your 25GB through your file explorer and use your 25GB allowance with ease.
But, this sync desktop app does not seem to be available to users of Maya, Max, etc....though there is a way to get it!
If you're interested in using the app, follow these steps:
1) Download the trial of any Autodesk 'CAD' product (Autocad, Inventor, Showcase should definitely be fine)
2) don't install it.
3) look through the installation package, there will be a folder called 'cloudSync'. Double click and install the 'AdSync' software
4) log into the sync client using your autodesk subscription account.
5) that's it, you now have easy access to your entitled 25GB cloud storage
A couple of things:
-I do not know if Sync Desktop is available for Mac.
-I do not know if this breaks any EULAs.
-Sync desktop app is just a very small part of the Autodesk 360 service. There are some fantastic features but none of these are compatible with the M&E apps. If you want to see these features, tell the Autodesk 360 team with this form:
Some of the features we are missing out on:
-Drop a .DWG fie into your ADSK sync folder and any assets (textures, XREFs, etc) used in that DWG will be auto-copied to your sync folder for you.
-Share, edit and view DWGs online.
-Render scenes via the cloud (kind of supported already, but much left to go!)
