Help with Render to Texture; rgb solid

hello frens,

I was following this tutorial here:

I followed it to the tee but when i render it, its a solid color with the lights messing up the geometry, i tried to remove all the lights from the render options, but i just can't get it.

if you look at the link, and scroll to the bottom of the tutorial, he clearly has a normal map,

now i have crazy bump and nvidia tools for photoshop, but ngon please, i still need the lights to not be messing whiff my map yo. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Uncheck 'Output into Normal Bump'. That creates a bump map, not a normals map.

it makes no difference kitty.

its the same.

so i found out that its rendering the color of the twisted rope.

its not creating an actual bump map. why is it not creating a normal map?

I simply cannot figure this out

well i changed the output location to a different folder, opened the output file in photoshop and it was exactly how i needed it to be, it just didn't show a bump map IN the renderer.

that's not a very nice feature if i can't tell how its supposed to output. that's alot more legwork than i want. touch me

Are you by any chance using VRay? If so, you have to use the VRay render elements (in this case, it's VRay Bump Normals).

Otherwise, I'm not sure, either. Are the normals for the object in the correct direction (ie. flipped faces)?

Ah, yes.

The renderer outputs a "complete" map in the render window. Your files will be correct, though.

hey, now that i caught one of you fishies,

is there a way to make these baked textures tileable?

this is what the output looks like:

ok, it is tileable, except for that purplish seam/strip on the left.

I do not know why its doing that? suggestions?

looks like it is not taking any texture information.
and is your mesh not overlapping itself ?

if you click on that first link i gave, its a really quick tutorial on this with pictures.

you'll see exactly how i built it and how it looks. i got it the exact same.
