Question Ian Joyner's tuts on Characters - skip deepuv and zbrush?

Hi all

Was just wondering if anybody knows if I can follow and complete Ian's tut series for modelling and texturing this character, with just max and not using zbrush and deepuv?

required software:
Max, PolyBoost, ZBrush, BodyPaint and Adobe Photoshop

I only have access to Max and Photoshop at this stage, anyway around the tut to just use what I have?
