pressure sensitivity

When i see tutorials on photoshop, i see people painting but none of them have really explained this one thing: which one of the above do they use? because when i use press. sens. it seems that the paint is in layers. when i try to tone down the opacity, the colors look dull. could someone please explain this to me? if i'm not clear, reply and i'll try to be more clear.

I believe most people use opacity controlled by pen pressure. You can do this in the brush menu.

Hope this answers your question. This way, you can produce a nice hard line where you want one and a lighter one elsewhere. I'll leave the rest for someone better than I to explain

Photoshop is at its core a very simple application. The way it applies colour to the "canvas" is through stamps, wherever you use the brush tool it will place stamps of a bitmap image you can apply to the brush itslef. Many people use this feature to make more intricate strokes.
If you increase the spacing(or decrease, whichever way it has to be for more stamps) you'll get smoother lines with pressure control.

Others will have plenty tips I'm sure. But it's worth checking out a load of tutorials because that's what they're there for. People just keep coming up with the same questions.

Good luck with the painting.
