Animate multiple objects along a path, without stretching

I have about 20 panels I need to animate along a path. When I use the path constraint even with a normalize spline on the path, it will stretch and bend the panels. I tried using a path contraint. but the panels wont turn correctly on the path.

I attached two images showing my problem. This is only using one panel, but I need to animate 20 of the in a single line, all exactly spaced from each other.

I really appreciate any help

That looks like the pivot is in a bit of an odd place. It would follow the spline with path constraint better if the pivot was in the middle.

I think if you need a number of them to follow one another you might find a tank track script would simplify things. I think there's one on www.scriptspot.com

god I hate path deforming...

I usually use two dummies, one to link to and one that's a few units ahead of the other that I use as a look at.

If there's any accidental flipping going on, I extend a copy of the spline outward, add a dummy to it and use it to balance the look at constraint.

sort of like this:

-----[]-----[]-----
-----[]------------
link to dummy
look at dummy
look at dummy used for proper banking

Another method is to create a path follow deformed plane, then use attach constraint to hook up the object to it. This way it will bank like a path follow would and not bend your real object.

Or you can try just changing the pivot of the main object, cross your fingers and hope it works.

I thought i would post back in case anyone else had this problem.

I ended up using Bones and a SplineIK solver and it worked perfectly.

Thanks for all the help guys.
