Multiple Lamberts

Well, as it says, I Currently have a couple of characters that I've imported into one scene, only problem is that they all are using lambert one as their skin type (used an image file for it).
So when I import them into the scene they all use Lambert 1 and all have the same look then unintentionally.
I've been struggling with this for awhile to no avail, when i go to select the character to change the material it only selects the head, nothing else. Is there any way I can rename or replace the lambert in Maya? (2013 is what I am running btw)
