Transfering Skin Weights to Paint Blendshape Weights via Python

Hey everyone,

I'd like to create a script that will transfer skinWeights onto Paint Blendshape Weights.

For example, instead of sculpting one side of characters smile, mirroring for the other side, and combining them. I'd like to paint half of the face with a skinCluster weights, and transfer the weights over to the paint blendshape weights tool. This way I will get a good even L_smile, R_smile.

If there is a better way, by all means tell me.

Let me know if you have any question, I'm really just not sure how to go about exporting the maps, and importing, via python.

- Josh

I'm a little confused as to what your goal is.

It sounds like you want to beable to take a "smile" blendshape and create a left and right split map?

You can export and import paint blendshape weight maps .. you can just open the map in a paint program and mirror it there.

Exactly, I understand how to do in manually, but I wanted it to script a button for quicker usage.
