Thanks!

That's exactly how I started. I've just under 12K subscribers now. Once I had a bit of a following I created some content for Gumroad and made promo vids for my YT channel. I've made some decent revenue from GR. Not so much from YT but, YT is really to build the audience platform for GR.

I'm seriously considering Udemy of late as I've seen some really terrible quality stuff on there where the authors have accrued in excess of 100K!! So I think, why the f**k am I not doing that?

You should go the UDEMY route. Have you seen some of the animation courses?

Check this one out

https://www.udemy.com/2d-character-...-after-effects/

He reduced the price to 10 but it was like 20 at one point.

He sold 4,265 students enrolled

What is 4,265x20? $92,500. Yup. I think it paid of pretty well.

Here is another one
Learn Blender Animation
2,290 students enrolled mulitply that by 10.

positioning

I've been doing a lot of freelance helping people who want to have their idea 3D printed through Shapeways, and also chasing ANY project that came by...But I've been doing an online freelance course that is encouraging us to really define our niche, and focus very specifically on it.

So I thought that I would focus more on the character design/digital sculpture, rather than the 3D design in general--because that helps cut off the general CAD requests... But as I started thinking about my positioning, I realized that the skillset that I had invested in modeling characters for animation was really part of that same niche--even defining it more sharply--Because the digital characters can be used for animation, games, VR as well as 3D printed statues, figurines and miniatures.

So with all of that in mind, I revamped my website and registered my domain name (though zandoria.wordpress.com will still take you to it). I would appreciate any feedback or comments:

Has anyone done some Gumnroad training recently?

Any updates on your IPs or selling VR models?

I was thinking of filming a movie here in Ecuador using the Jungle, ruins and streets but want it as a VR movie that immerses you in the movie.

I had some recent experience with VR and it was awesome. I was thinking what if we did a movie? Cameras are no longer that expensive to do this.

Your thoughts?

Where could you sell a VR movie?

I wanted to give a case study.

I know some of you have some great skill in the CG world. Why not pick a popular subject matter like Disney characters and then mangafy them or furry them.

This is an idea for you.

Then as you do Youtube video connected to your deviantart, cgtalk and artstation account give away some condensed tutorials.

Then setup a Patreon showing more thorough tutorials with files.

I've been following Ross Draws and there is no reason a lot of you guys couldn't do this.
Check out his Patreon account.

https://www.patreon.com/Rossdraws

He is getting about 3,000 plus a month.

So would 3,000 extra a month be enough to quit your day job and work on other projects?

I'm sure there's a term for this, given it applies to so many successful entrepreneurial ventures, but for lack of knowing, i'm going to call it; the exotic factor ... notice what i did there? EX factor ... X factor for anyone not a Brit, this will be lost on you lol ... moving on ..

Basically you can set up all the variables in place that should deliver a successful outcome, but does not. And on the opposite end of the spectrum, you can get someone who fails to really establish the variables in place for a successful outcome, yet still succeeds.

Why is this?

*drum roll*

The EXotic factor!

This is what divides a lot of success. For example, the Patreon page you linked to. This guy is an ok character artist, he's not amazing, but pretty damn good at what he does ... he likely has all the variables on full steam, for example; youtube, gumroad, facebook, Patreon etc ... but does this effort alone produce $3000? .. nope. You could have another person who can produce far better work and make far less. Why is this?

*drum roll*

The EXotic factor!

This can be divided into a number of sub variables that are unrelated to the art itself; for example, personality, appearance, timing, geo location, presentation, social demographic, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, age ... all these things are what attribute to the difference that separates the guy who does a good job, ticks all the variables and makes lots of money and the guy who does a great job, ticks all the variables and makes little to no money.

I mean; look at that guy in the Patreon page; he looks like he just popped right off the Disney production line of perfect people! and he has a cute dog, that wears cute clothes!!! lol I dare say he had the exotic factor! .. lol ..hopefully he never reads this

So the one main point to consider when suggesting youtube, patreon, gumroad, kickstarter etc .. is, does said person have the exotic factor too?

LOL.
So find the cutest cosplay Asian girl with a bubbly personality with cute/bad English who has a kitty. Jump between you and her drawing. You give the steps for her to narrate, she talks to her kitty and narrates your drawing. She does a skit at the beginning and same exit each video.

Then you draw some Anime style characters in Disney style. Gender Swaps of anime and Disney. Or do Anime characters in Disney style. Anime style characters as Furries.

Hit some niches and then throw in your own original stuff and build an audience for Patreon.

I just made you 100,000 a year on the first person to capitalize on this.

I had to post this one as well. Similiar theme.

https://www.patreon.com/sakimichan

4000+ patreons. He doesn't put the full amount but the lowest Patreon is $3x4000=12,000.

But you have to give something really good. He has some tutorials and other pictures on each tier.

So can you do it? I also noticed outside the Xfactor is frequency.

He also did exactly what I said to do. Anime to Disney.

Start with Elsa, Moana, Belle, Ariel.

Hahahah just saw this.

I wish I could teach by example but I suck at drawing. My talent is actually directing others talents. I've already taken a few people to getting better jobs and using their talent for money.

I took for example my wifes talent and abilities and turned it into a business where we work online and work 2 days a week.

I'm going to be getting my IP up pretty soon so will share that information if and when it gets successful.

But thought I'd give ideas to some folks who already have CG talent. I suck at that part sadly.
