One of my favorites, seeing what is what or where is what:

for i in selection do format "%\n" i

or

for i in objects do format "% - %\n" i.layer.name i

or

for i in lights do format "% - %\n" i.name i.enabled

I think you get the point

A small contribution:

$.baseObject = $[1].baseObject
$.baseObject = $[$.count].baseObject

Instantiate all selected base objects tor first or last selected one, respectively. If there is modifiers it creates a reference. I use a lot for point helpers though, especially with tracking data.

**** off topic:
@em3 - there is - right click any map slot and there you have "cut, copy, clear"
works everywhere - guess no one used it as there is the none slot in the browser (but i think only the legacy one..? - many years before i noticed this)

but to get on-topic again:

$.material = undefined

Mmmn no it doesn't, unfortunately there are places where that is not implemented. You either have to open the Map browser and apply a "None" map, or clear it via MAXScript

Try it here:

You can right-click on that highlighted button I posted and you get a right-click menu that says Cut/Copy/Clear?
