16 bit dpx errors

Hey guys,

So I'm having this problem with some dpx files. I stupidly asked for 16 bit dpx's, forgetting that After Effects only likes them at 10-bit.

I worked around this by bringing them into Photoshop and exporting something a bit more AE friendly. Then, in the same group of shots, I started getting shots coming in looking like the jpeg I've attached. The person conforming things tells me that everything looks good on his end. However, for me these shots are unusable.

They're not cooperating with me, telling me the problem is mine, and I want to be absolutely sure whether it is or isn't. Is there any logical reason some 16bit dpx's should come in to photoshop looking fine, and others look all noisy and rainbowy like this? Is it possible this problem is on my end, or am I just getting corrupt or problematic dpx's that need to be exported again?

I believe the original footage comes from Red files, if that makes a difference.

I was having a similar issue the other day. My frames didn't look exactly like yours, but looked like they had some jacked up scanlines across the frame. The problem was saving out the 10 bit .dpx with alpha. If I saved them without alpha, everything was normal. And it only looked incorrect in Photoshop and AE. Inside Nuke and our DVS Clipster system, they looked fine, with or without alpha.

We sent them along and everything worked correctly, so I think it's just some issue with PS and AE trying to make sense of the extra alpha channel in the .dpx
