Animated Rope

Hey All,

Having a problem here, I hope you can help. I have a model of a pully system, and the rope that is attached. I need to have the rope pull as the pullies rotate. Does that make sense? Anyway,
I can't seem to set the rope up to pull thru. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Hamish

Setup some kind of expression, so that as the rope gets pulled the pully rotates.

OK Great!

Care to explain a possible method to achieving that?

Here is a small diagram of what I mean.

I would just use an animated texture map rather then mess with physically moving the rope.

Your rope is going to move through the pully like tank tread moving over wheels. Not exactly identical, but a similar challenge. You might want to take a look at this tutorial and see if it doesn't help:

Good luck!

Here's a challenge I can participate in...

Setup a spline in modeler following the path you desire.
Run the rope on this path one of many ways:
- 7.5b (7.5) splinamate
- Convert that spline to skelegons; have the rope use these bones
- umm ummm what the others have said.

Doing a flag pole and this is a challenge, indeed.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm going to try all the ideas mentioned, hopefully I'll get at least one to work.

I'll post some screen shots and or test renders as soon as I get something workin'.

Thanks again!n
