Severity, Jose Maria Andres (3D)

Title: Severity
Name: Jose Maria Andres
Country: United Kingdom
Software: 3ds max, Mudbox, Photoshop, VRay

Hi all. Feels good to be posting again!

This new image is called "Severity", and is a personal project for a creative weekly thingy we are trying to start at the studio I am currently working for.

This week's word was exactly that, "severity", and this dark scene is what that term brought to my mind, something very far from the happiness and saturation my previous projects were full of. All was done in a day and a half, and as usual was modeled in pose in 3D Studio MAX and Mudbox, lit with VRay and retouched in Photoshop.

On my point of view..

Well done.

I just want to quickly explain why I really your picture by the description it has on my mind:

. minimalist shape as character had a full fast and strong visual impact, in less than few secondes I understood his state of mind with clear graphic language, then the shadow came subtly.... personnaly it came just after watchin the sad kawai Character, then the shadow gave a strongest dramatical impact....

Maybe I am wrong, but...

I can see a child, a beaten child... Thats sad, I think that your picture is really strong.

On my own vision you really did the job, congratulations.

This is very good work. I have to say it reminds me of a child being punished, which I don't like. As one who has had a good childhood with a father who always made me feel happy, images like yours kind of disturb me.

What I'm saying is well done for a great work that probably makes some of us think twice and appreciate all the good things in our childhood.

Thank you all for your comments! :-)

I think I got it right this time in terms of maximizing my efficiency, impact/hours expended. As you can see there is no much in the scene, but until now no one has remained neutral about it and is visually as disturbing as pleasing... if this makes any sense. This efficiency is specially welcome when you don't have much time to work on long personal projects... :-(

The meaning of the work is open to everyone's own interpretation. It's clear that there is a boy on a chair crying, but the reason why he is crying is not known. We could have been punished unfairly, could have been beaten, he could have been very mean to his little sister and is doing his time on the chair... he could have been even kidnapped! And the person of the shadow could be his father, his kidnapper or... could be even "us". Feel free to think whatever you want, because whatever your brain takes you to, you are going to be right :-)

Thumbs up Amazing CG ART!!

Jose, this is truly a picture wich says more than words. And i can feel the sadness of the character.
This is what CG art is all about!

You will always be a great role model, in terms of your amazing cg art. You have incomprehensible great detail, from the light, texture and composition.

Congratulations my friend, and good luck!
