How do you create a 'dummy object' in Maya?

How do you create a 'dummy object' in Maya?

And is that what it is called in Maya? I know it is called that in 3DStudioMax - if it is called something else in Maya - please let me know what and where it is on a Menu....thxs!

I need to create the dummy object and then group it with an existing model so I can parent it (dummy object)above the model.

Please advise how I do this....thanks!

Andrew

I'm getting deja vu here.. apart from doing a google search, or doing some looking inside Maya, or reading the Help.. you could also read the replies to your own question LOL

I am still looking for an answer because the answers from 3 days ago didn't get me there - which is why I reposted it...

Interesting approach.. you got 3 answers, all of which are correct, and you couldn't even bother replying to the posters and for some reason you don't believe them? So you start a brand new thread with exactly the same question, with no explanation of why you weren't satisfied with the other answers.

I linked to the wrong topic, it's this one - http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthr...p?f=7&t=1079364

Cheers,
Brian

The answers from 3 days ago were all fine and helpful. What don't you understand?

The dummy object is a transform that looks like a box, if you're looking for a box then you can create a poly cube.

Well, you really should have at least replied to the people in the other thread - it's quite rude to just ignore people that have taken the time to help you - whether you understood it or not.

hey everyone - forgive me - I didnt know the strict ediquette in here and just wanted to see if I could get some new answers from some different people - that's all - was that such a crime? geez. I was able to resolve my issue and I love this forum- again if you all have such a problem with a double post - then just delete my second post. I don't think it's going to crash the entire website. And yes - I should have thanked the other people and I will. Now I know!!
