[Newbie Q] Selecting in Front Viewport

I am following a tutorial: http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/ma...g-in-cinema-4d/

Whenever the tutorial select a "Knifed" section in the front mode, the whole "knifed" section is selected, not only the "Front" part, but also the "back" part.

Whenever I do the same, the only part that is selected is the "Front" part, (as you can see in my viewport) I did find a work around. I had to switch back to Perspective mode and select the back part additionally. However, it would be nice to do the same as the tutorial did. For workflow purposes.

Thank you guys!

Pick your selection tool: bounding box, lasso etc. Then on the bottom right panel, disable
"Only select visible elements"

Keep in mind this option is stored per selection type
