Maya 2013 Node Editor not working

Maya 2013 Node Editor not working

I am unable to open the node editor in Maya 2013, the UI is missing and looking into the script editor there is this error. What can I do to fix this?

delete pref & open maya with a fresh pref and slowly bring back you old hotkeys/userpref/shelf to find what is causing the problem

I have already deleted my prefs folder in my documents and I still get the error. I do know why I'm getting it though. At one point last year I accidentally deleted my whole Autodesk folder... OK.... With that I had to change some registry stuff for me to install it again and that is probably the reason why. However it has to be the node editor, I am not sure.

could it be that you have a global environment variable (ex PYTHONPATH) or a registry key that makes Python look for modules in an older version of Maya?

Yes I do have a PYTHON environment that is looking into an older version, I do wonder why it looked into 2012. How would this help in my situation may I ask?
