Mari Selection Mask

Hi all, I haven't been using Mari for too long. I have a problem of trying to paint on only specified faces.
Does anyone have any idea how to do this?

I've been googling around, and reading the manual,
I have only found how to paint patches separately, and make selection groups to stop specific faces from being painted.

How do I make some kind of mask to paint only specific faces?
I could make a selection masks of all the other faces and lock them sure, but it takes ages to select faces in mari. Everytime I try it now I have to one by one select faces, invert the selection, create a selection group then lock the group.
Is there no easier way?
