FumeFX rendering issue (OpenEXR)

Hi guys!
Im just starting to play around with FumeFX and Max, so please have a little mercy if this is a noob question..
I simulated a small explosion on FumeFX and tried to render (Scanline, OpenEXR) the sequence. Now, in the render preview it looks as expected (1st image) but if i open that exact frame in an EXR viewer or drop it into AE, it looks some kind of weird, just white with jagged edges (2nd image)...
Im not sure what the problem is and id appreciate any suggestions!
(I accidentally set vray as default renderer...but i think i changed everything back to scanline (hopefully!)...is there a way to reset that properly?)
Thanks so much in advance!
Cheers, Jandro.
