dynamically rigging a cable

Hi all

I am trying to find the best/easiest way to rig a cable from a crane that is floppy then tenses as the crane starts lifting an object and becomes load bearing. Im currently looking into using the flex modifier but im a bit of a noob at this kind of stuff in max. I can find tutorials on how to make a swinging rope using this method but im not sure how to do this but have both ends of the rope attached to objects (that would become the hook of the crane and the box. Anyone have any ideas how best to approach this?

The best example of the type of effect im trying to achieve is on Paul Neale's website of the chain flex (so if your about paul i'd love to know how you got both ends moving and the middle flexing!) as if i could get both ends of a chain like this attached to two objects it would be ideal!

http://www.paulneale.com/tutorials/flex/flex.htm

Cheers in advance
Martin
