mental ray passes

dose mental ray always render a beauty pass with the pass your are making?

how can i just out put just the passes as multiple exrs minus the beauty pass.
any thoughts?

It will always render de beauty. If you render in EXR, the passes can be inside the main file. In the name file field (commom tab), choose any name or the render layer tag. If you use the render passes tag, Maya will render each pass in a different file.

I understand exactly what you mean but i don't see this tag or how to enable it to render it into one file

Open Render Settings. The first tab is the Common tab. Inside "File Output" group, right click "File name prefix" field. Choose <RenderLayer>. Maya will render a file with the render layer´s name and will put the render passes inside it.

ok cool that works, but how can i combine them all in to one exr

You mean, how to choose EXR format?

Below "File name prefix" you´ll see "Image format". Choose "OpenEXR"

no i know i to get exr, thats not the problem

i have render layers and passes and tryin to combine all the passes in to one file
but seems if i have layer that could never happen all the passes would need to be on one render layer correct me if Im wrong

oh ha! but there are some custom passes that need shaders to evaluate to make the pass

standard + custom ones but all rendered to on open exr file i got it working great all the passes are being pulled from one shader
