Extract object from mask

I am learning the C4D sculpting tools and I have run into a few issues. The first one is that the "realtime preview" in the extract object box doesnt seem to work. I have it checked but it makes no difference. The second issue is that at 6 levels of subdivision my extracted object doesn't look good. The edges are all jagged and rough. I seem to have two choices - increase subdivisions but if I increase over 6 C4D slows to a screeching halt. Or I can use smooth flood after the extract but this is not a great option as it changes the shape and softens it too much and still doesnt look good anyway. Any advise about this please? I decreased initial segments in my sphere and set to render perfect then I increased the subdivisions to 8 but result is shit.
