spline from tube

i´m looking for a simple solution (maybe a script or plugin) to generate a spline from an uneven polygon tunnel (digestive_small intestine). the spline should be in the exact middle of the surrounding tunnel.

the "edge loop, selection to joints, joints to spline method" also described in joelotron´s thread works best for me actually but it takes ages because i want to do the same on the circulatory system.

any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I would like to have something as a plugin

but I know this is no trivial thing, hence I asked Samir Kharchi ( once about the subject.

Anyway I am interested in a solution too. hence I have a lot of piping CAD imports to handle.

kind regards mogh
