Looks great! Sully's fur just kills me, how I wish I could render characters like that

Cheers,
Brian

Never thought I'd see a Pixar trailer that uses a Mötley Crüe song!

I think this looks great, but then I always loved the Monsters Inc characters. Interestingly, out of all of Pixar's films, this one is the most Hollywoodish in terms of milieu - the whole college thing has been done loads of times over the decades by Hollywood, but it's never really been done in animation.

Looking forward to it.

Hmmm, I dunno. The college thing has been done to death (though not in animation, as you said). But without the drugs, alcohol and sex, it's hard to imagine there would be any college hijinks left to be had.

Also, how come the slug at the beginning moves slow like a slug, then at the end the football slug moves fast? Just askin'. ;-)

Looks like a fun repository of gags and fun animation, looks very finely crafted all around, but still pointless as a movie to me.

I like what someone said of it, "The only movie with less to say than 'college monsters' would be 'monster babies'."

If this were a series of shorts ala Mike's Car I think it would be fine, just seems to otherwise be a stretch.

Anyway as I keep saying, 99% of prequels are unnecessary if a movie (or anything, book, TV show, whatever) does their job the first time..they should give you all the back story you need, and bring you into the characters' lives at the actual important/interesting part.

MI did such an amazing job of not only all that but wrapping the story up well, it just seems like a massive comedown to go back and focus on such relatively unimportant stuff. Even a sequel, as much as it could completely wreck the perfect ending of the original, would at least have more going on than this.

I'm hoping it is more about other characters in the school having their own problems than us really being told to care about Mike & Sully's rivalry (which we know will be resolved).

^ I guess to some extent it comes down to how you feel about the characters. With Cars 2 for example I really wasn't that interested as the first movie didn't do much for me, but I really liked the 2 main characters in MI and the chemistry between them, so spending some more time with them whether it's a prequel or sequel appeals to me a lot. Having said that, I'd guess there might be some subplots with other characters too to keep the story interesting.

Regarding that high speed slug on the football field.. sheesh.. are there any athletes left these days who are not juicing?

Cheers,
Brian

Unfortunately Pixar's movies have been on a decline lately. Cars 2, Brave, even Toy Story 3 didn't work as well for me as their previous ones. Even Up and Wall-E were flawed to some extent... the last one I've really honestly liked was The Incredibles. That's also the last one I own.

So for all the validity of your points, I'm still interested and to some level excited about this one - maybe it'll finally be a good movie that I want to buy and re-watch from time to time.

The very first teaser/trailer I saw really turned me off--it looked like some kind of direct-to-video money-grabbing project to milk a franchise. Now with the official trailers released, it looks much more interesting. I don't know why they released that horrible first teaser/trailer--it probably did far more harm than good.
