Spider On Leaf, Jason Saunders (3D)

Title: Spider On Leaf
Name: Jason Saunders
Country: Usa
Software: Blender

I originally created this image for a Weekend Challenge, then worked on it a bit more. Lighting setup involves several pointlights, one shadow-spot, and a textured spotlight for the subtle "dappled" lighting. No raytracing/GI/AO features used. Modeled and rendered in Blender, slight post processing in GIMP. Comments and constructive critiques welcome :)

Nice work! I like the textures on the leafs.

The spider's body looks somewhat smooth in texture though. A little unreal....

Thanks pjanssen. Which part of the spider are you referring to? the legs, or the abdomen? Did you look at the full sized picture (click on the one in the thread), because there is texture and shading detail that is lost in the small version (just checkin)

Yes I did see the large picture. I'm not sure how it is in real life, but it just caught my eye that the large part of his body (the yellow-black part) is looking very smooth.

Great job on the peice! Nice to see fellow Blender users posting in cgtalk. I love the leaf texture, nice place for the spider to rest. My only complaint would be that their is too much of the background shown, when it's really not showing much.

Very very nice work there. I like the leaf, the procedural holes are very well done. the texturing is nice too, but I do agree that the spider could have use a bit more small bumps. It looks slightly too soft.

All in all, a very nice image.

Keep it up!

i personally followed the progress of this image and can say what a difference there is between the original and what is being displayed here. great work Jas, both the modelling and textures are great...especially those leaves (glad to see you took my advice about toning down that voronoi tex). keep up the good work, i cant wait to see your next piece.
