Maya Splotchy Shadows?

Hey all, I'm having trouble with a render in mental ray (Maya) and I was hoping one of you could help.

As you can see, the shadows are quite splotchy, any ideas on how to get that smoothed out?

I'm using multiple point lights in the seen, and FG was unchecked for this render.

Can I assume these are depth map shadows?

You could increase the resolution of the maps, in crease the filter size or adjust the bias etc..

If they are raytraced try increasing the shadow rays

Are you using an area light? Read this to find a solution:
