problems with smd files, small fonts mode error

I am experiencing two oddities that did not happen on my last windows 7 pc...

Firstly, when trying to edit .smd files, the points that make up the skeleton/mesh do not move with the animated nodes, so the figure gets horribly distorted as I select different frames. It is practically impossible to work with.

Second, every time I open the program I get the error "Autodesk Softimage only works in small fonts mode. Please change your display setting" and then SI loads up like normal. I am running on a 1920x1080 resolution. I've tried various compatibility settings and resolutions and still receive the same error.

The error message itself ins't a big deal, but I'm thinking it might be related to the first case because I did not have either problem with my old system.

Here's how funky the thing gets...
