Just for discussions sake, I've been passing a large scale scene around from Maya 2013, Houdini 12 and Realflow 2012 and I find Maya's camera to be the easiest to get to where I need to go and behave the way I want. This may be because I am also the most comfortable with Maya, but there are egregious camera annoyances with all three packages around this issue.
So maybe the blame should be spread around a bit more on this issue.
Onward!
