Photoreal Matte Painting with Blizzard's David Luong
It's back! David Luong's Photoreal Matte Painting Part 1 CGWorkshop sells out blindingly quickly, so don't delay if you want a seat in this run.
Over 8 weeks, work with David and your classmates as you learn how to give your environments and mattes the photoreal quality required by VFX studios today.
David says, "I'll be leading students through the process of creating a photo real matte painting for film or high end animation such as realistic and invisible right through to Sci-Fi and fantasy landscapes and cityscapes. This is not a concept painting class but rather a photo realistic or hyper realistic class. We'll use digital painting to enhance the look of textures, lighting, scale and create photo real backdrops that will serve story and characters in a universe."s realistic and invisible right through to Sci-Fi and fantasy landscapes and cityscapes. Hi, this workshop interests me but I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to matte painting. I've done some digital painting and some basic compositing. How advanced do you need to be for this class? Also, will the schedule accomodate people that work a regular job? Thanks

Thanks for your interest! This is aimed for beginners to intermediate artists who want to get into matte painting, or for those who want to further their portfolio pieces with additional matte painting art. So you can come in with just a little knowledge to see how matte painting fits you and your work flow. Knowing a bit about digital painting and composting is core to this class so that'll be good. Each week builds upon the previous week's works and I'll also be guiding you in how to create a successful matte painting and project.
The best part about this workshop format at CGSociety is that it's all based on your own time. As each week unlocks new lessons, you can finish it whenever in the week, and post your work for critiques. Then I'll reply as soon as possible, and then you can post your improved work until we get a finished product in the end. So this is a great class for people who are working a regular job, or already a student at a school.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
