bevel issue

Can anyone tell me what would be the best way to adjust the topology and eliminate artifacts.

Hey man,

What program are you using? That looks a bit like XSI, but I'm not sure.

Either way, you need to find a way to un smooth your surface normals.

i am using softimage.
I usually just do subdivision modeling for anything rounded.
But would really like to know how to use bevels in this kind of scenario.

ive tried all sorts of ways of adding edgeloops and terminating the edges, and some of them made the artifacts smaller...but is there a modelling technique im not aware of to smooth it out.

Hey man,

Have you tried taging them as hard edges? You could tag the outer edge of the bevel as hard so it wont smooth.

Do you know what surface normals are? They dictate the angle of the surface for shading purposes. These need to be straightened out so they are parallel to your faces. If I remember correctly, tagging an edge as hard should also harden the normals.
