Dan Ablan book and stuck

Hey there. This question will prolly apply to only those with Dan's "Lightwave 7" book. But I am doing the Milla head modeling tutorial and on page 447, Dan tells you to select the polys on each end of the object and then use the bend tool to curve the eye socket. It looks horrible what I am doing. Any tips?

I placed an image of where I think I am supposed to select, but it's nasty looking after I try to bend it. Additionally I am not sure what view to use the bend tool in. Anyway and help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Bend

he says to select them "in turn" ...don't try to bend the ends at the same time.....do one side then the other.

Thanks Omto. Did you see the image I posted? My only other question is how many polygons to select...the book says the polygons on each end. Is that 2, 4 or more polygons? I'll just mess with it 'til it goes. Thanks for the help!

Bend

Bend tool can be tricky....You will have to mess with it a bit....from your picture I would select the majority of polygons on one half of the eyelid and bend...then do the same on the other half.

Yeah I did that and it worked well! Thanks Omto.

Orkman -
keep at it! Don't worry about taking every step literally - use the images as a guide.
And, be sure to bend in the side view.

Hope that helps.

Yep it's actually going much better. I knew you were on these boards Dan.

I'll keep at it!

P.S. Dan do you anticipate a section in your LW 8 book on body modeling? I am liking the head tutorial, wondered if you would continue with a full body tute.

Hi Orkman,
we intended to do that for the 7 book - but there were a few things that didn't happen....

The 8 book has a ton of modeling, from cool animals, to electronics, cars, and a stylized character.

Body modeling is not human, but not cartoon like either.

The amount of methods shown in this updated book will enable to build whatever you like. You'll learn box modeling, point by point, as well as a character from splines.

Thanks for your interest!

Dan, that sounds like a lot of text and images...how many pages will Inside LW8 be?

We're having a little trouble right now keeping it under 1000.
Last book was about 1200, and that's just too big for the spine.

So, it's about 800 something now, and I've got three more chapters to complete. There's usually 30 to 50 images in each chapter. I'll know all the specs in a couple of weeks. It'll be wrapped up this week.

And, there's another huge bonus we're adding too, which I'll announce in May.

Thanks!

Dan, I read somewhere on the net that Inside Lightwave 8 will be released towards the end of May. Is that about right?

Also, the last keyframe I picked up was issue #37. Is #38 out yet?

Yep, that's about right... end of May.

Keyframe issue 38 is going to print tomorrow, or the next day.

Thanks.
