Lighting technuiqes

Hey! Could anyone share their lighting technique for character/environment/asset presentation?
I am working on my portfolio and lighting isn't something I've been studying alot. So could anyone point me to a tutorial for lighting or a technique?

Thanks for any replies!

A basic three-point lighting setup is usually a good place to start when lighting characters. The link below goes over the basics of a three point set up in real life, but all the techniques apply to CG.
