Atmospherics - Science & Experiments & Methods

We started a tutorial series in 3D Artist magazine, you can read the first article in the actual issue (#116).
The title and intro:

Achieve accurate
atmospherics with
Houdini & Clarisse

Observe and investigate the basics of atmospheric effects, learn the
science behind it and enhance your images with these methods

We begin a series of tutorials in 3D Artist with
this one, talking about a natural phenomenon
in each. The pieces of software we've chosen
here are Houdini and Clarisse, however these tutorials are
intended to be software agnostic ones. In fact, we open our
physical windows and observe how Mother Nature
renders breathtaking visuals in real time – doing so with
experiments, playing with scientific facts. These
investigations can bring us new perspectives, not just in
terms of CG but also for our own general knowledge.
After explaining the necessary basics we will focus on
some interesting or lesser known topics and problems,
which can help you to enhance your images. While nature
is quite complicated, we won’t try to cover each aspect of
the phenomena here; the steps in the tutorial are glimpses
of the author’s research and study.
You can find all of the resources, real-world
experiments, in-depth explanations and additional tutorials
related to this and the upcoming articles on his ArtStation

This forum thread is not just an opportunity to give feedback to the author but also to conversate about the science of atmospheric effects and it's implementations in practice. You can also ask questions and suggest your tutorial requests here.
