Reuse Normal Map File


So I create a shader with a normal map and use it for the diffuse layer in my scene on an object. Now I create an ambient occlusion layer and create a shader override for said object. Instead of creating a new normal map file, I think to myself that I can just drag the already existing normal map file for that object into the bump of the shader. But when I then render the image, the object is black. If I however were to create a NEW bump file instead of reusing the old one, it works perfectly.

So does anyone know how I can get this to work? I really do not understand why it is not working. This happens to any object in any scene at any time.
