local transpose scale?

Hi everyone,

I can't scale my subtool locally, I'm trying to insert cylinders as fingers but when i scale it scales from the origin, moving my finger off into space.

TIA

I decided to familiarize myself with the transpose tool by working on a square primitive and trying to scale it in one axis, following this...
http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index...Scaling_a_Model

"To scale the model in the plane perpendicular to the action line:
Click and drag from the inside of the midpoint of the action towards an endpoint."

It's scaling my cube in two axis when I drag the middle towards the end point.... I have no more hair to pull out.

Is there any way to just get a manipulator like in max and maya? I'm trying to make a rectangular box. What sadistic bastard made the transpose tool? /

try this,
1:select a cube
2: Select (Move mode) not scale mode
3: hold the shift key down and click the center bottom of the cube and drag to the top center of the cube
4: select the top center transpose circle and drag up, you can all so hold the shift key if needed.
it will move it in 1 axis

to center it back use tool>deformation>unify

Thanks, I'll give this a shot.

Worked like a charm. I used this method to scale a cube so I could sculpt it into a finger. Now that I have my finger placed in the right spot as a subtool of my body mesh, I'd like to scale it uniformly so it's not so big. Is it possible to just change the pivot to a local position on the finger so it doesn't fly off into space when I scale it?

I tried using the masking approach, but now that it's a higher resolution it collapses in on itself even if the mask is smoothed

So I'm guessing the preview window is where you position the pivot? is it possible to zoom in on the finger in the preview to I can place the pivot more accurately?

hrm, nevermind look like moving the pivot in the preview window just moves the subtool off into space...

oh man, right under my nose!

to scale it remove all mask and start bottom middle of the finger and drag to the middle tip of the finger and drag the circle by the tip of the finger in scale mode.

you can all so try Tool>geometry >size x,y,z

this may or may not work because it may move the finger, you can all so scale the size tool>deformation>size

if you want to make a pivot and scale into that area ALT + Click that area
