Autodesk Max & Maya - 90 day fixed term licences

Noticed this on the Autodesk online store today (AUS and New Zealand)
Has this already been announced and i've completely missed this?!

http://store.autodesk.com.au/store/...uctID.259956100

$300 for a commercial licence of Maya or Max for a temporary period of 90 days.
That's very cheap, and very handy!
Seems like the closest thing to Adobe's creative cloud at the moment. Hope they add Mudbox, XSI, etc to the list. A great option for when you only need the extra software for 1 or 2 heavy projects.

This is just an extended paid trail that is only available in New Zealand and Australia. After the 90 day expires you must either buy the full program or discontinue using it. Just the latest of autodesks scams.

It's a normal commercial licence for those 90 days though. So that's a commercial copy of the software for $25 a week. For many people it might be a scam..It sucks that you can't extend the 'trial' or pay for another one, but in some situations, it works out to be a good deal.

You're seeing this from a completely wrong angle. This is not bait to sell you a license. This IS a license. For 90 days. That's all. For many shops, this is a great deal. I know many studios who need to ramp up when deadlines loom, and need extra hands. They can hire the extra hands for a few months, but having to spend another $3K-$5K per seat makes things expensive. This license will be great for these situations. Even for freelancers who jump from 3D to 2D tasks, being able to use the product for a few weeks depending on the project will be great. Really great option.

I agree with ToonMan2. The only annoying downside of this deal is the fact that you (at the moment) cannot renew a 90 term licence.

Autodesk should let you/studios purchase as many as you want. It is extra revenue they may not have.

I'm mainly interested in this licencing model for Mudbox or Maya. I own a Zbrush & Max licence and would not justify a purchase of an entire licence of Maya or Max just for one job. But i'd todally be up to renting the software for a short term on jobs where i'd really benefit from it.

Right now, Autodesk push you to purchase software with a subscription or in a suite, otherwise you are really going to 'waste' money by not being able to upgrade later on, an adobe Creative cloud style model is a good idea.
