Placing objects on displaced geometry

I am working on a big project right now and I have trouble to clone geometry on displaced surfaces.

I am using a displace deformer in emulation mode to place the clones on the correctly displaced geometry. But the deformer is ignored during the rendering(Picture Viewer) process and the clones are placed on the even, undisplaced geometry.

My workaround for now is to create a duplicate of the object and use "current state to object" on it. Then I distribute the clones on the frozen geometry and use a comp tag to make it invisible in the final rendering.

Is there a better way to get around this problem? It works ok on objects without animated displacement but my solution wouldn't work with animated displacement.

should work fine with the displace deformer I can only imagine your order of objects is wrong in the object manager. The displaced object must be before the cloner in the om. If not copy the settings identically int he deformer as in the shader and turn off the displacement in the shader and rely solely on the deformers displacement. Slower, yes, but rendertime geo simply cannot be seen by anything else.

Thanks for your help. Seems to work better, with the displacement material placed directly inside the deformer with copied settings.
