How Good Is The New R19 Viewport In Production Use?

I played with the R19 demo for a few hours when it first came out. Tried out some of the new OpenGL lighting and shading tricks. DOF, realtime shadows and other things.

So I'm curious. How well does the R19 viewport hold up in everyday production use? Do the new GPU shading tricks help visualize scenes without having to render them?

I do realize that R19 viewport is not - yet - as fully featured as Blender's Eevee appears to be. Eevee seems hellbent on bringing AAA game realtime 3D rendering a la UE and Unity to Blender, while C4D is just taking first steps in this direction.

So the question - how good is R19 viewport in day to day use? Anyone have any cool screenshots of realtime shaded projects with R19 viewport?

It's good for previz and it's ok for 3D titles etc (think Element 3D stuff)

But it's a bit of a pain to use on a day to day basis as an "almost final preview renderer" because you have to manually switch on or off everything that you want to see (lights, generators etc...) and even then you still have the "black dots" of the cloners pivot visible and such.

The black dots is cringe worth.

To get rid of the black dot when using mograph:

you can use the viewport/render controls (dots) in the Object Manager to hide that dot.

Set the cloner's visibility to red and the objects to be cloned to green

for you lacy guys just a quick toggle script .... to give you an idea

didn't find a solution to toggle the dots though ...

import c4d
from c4d import gui
#Welcome to the world of Python

def main():
    c4d.CallCommand(17551, 17551) # Noises
    c4d.CallCommand(17426, 17426) # Post Effekte
    c4d.CallCommand(17425, 17425) # Schatten
    c4d.CallCommand(17424, 17424) # Transparenz
    #c4d.CallCommand(18071, 18071) # Reflektivität
    c4d.CallCommand(18070, 18070) # SSAO
    c4d.CallCommand(18069, 18069) # Tessellation
    c4d.CallCommand(1038947, 1038947) # Schärfentiefe
    c4d.CallCommand(70000, 911) # Anzeige-Filter
    c4d.CallCommand(70000, 929) # Anzeige-Filter
    c4d.CallCommand(70000, 925) # Anzeige-Filter
    c4d.CallCommand(70000, 914) # Anzeige-Filter
    c4d.CallCommand(70000, 930) # Anzeige-Filter
    c4d.CallCommand(70000, 930) # Anzeige-Filter
    c4d.CallCommand(70000, 934) # Anzeige-Filter

if __name__=='__main__':
    main()

Hey Mogh,

Not sure if it's a false positive but the link to your website gives me here a malware alert. May want to look into that.

Just saw Tachyon Render released a new demo of their software in progress.  They used one of the demo scenes from C4d to show off their impressive work:

Using the visibility toggle switches (red/green) set the cloner's visibility to red and the objects to be cloned to green
