Curve Editor Delete Key won't work

I keep getting into a situation where the delete key will not delete animation keys from the curve editor (or dope sheet). I can select and modify the keys with the mouse. But I have no way to delete them.

Sometimes it works fine. Others it is broken. Max 2014.

I have the Keyboard Shortcut Override toggle ON (tried off too).

Thoughts?

I get this same problem periodically in Max2011. I don't know what causes it but if I close and reopen the Curve Editor it frees up whatever got "tangled" and the delete key works again after that.

Sadly, reopening the curve editor does not always fix it. Sometimes it does, but sometimes it does not. Drives me nuts!
