Animating Colour??

i need some guidance, as i'm sure this is possible, i just have no clue how to achieve it?

I need to recreate a logo that was animated in such a way that its a glass object which goes from clear to coloured with a wipe effect.

I can change colour simply by keyframing the colour, but i do not know how i can animate a wipe to affect the colour transition.

Please can anyone point me in the right direction?

thanks
Adam
