Question VFX Shot - Align camera with shot

Hello guys, here's my problem. I have a shot with a static camera and an actor in an open field, i must simulate a bunch of megaphones falling in front in the back of him.... I was thinking simulating megaphones with rigid body dynamics. My problem is, since i don't have measure distances (camera to the actor, height of the camera) or reference measures in the shot, how do i proper align my plane with my background so i can have proper shadows in the ground and the correct values for rigid body simulation?
Cheers.
