help: Extrude without banking

Hi there,

I'm trying to extrude a river surface mesh that curves down a mountain slope by extruding a curve (water surface) along another curve (the rivers path) which is snapped to the mountain mesh. The resulting extruded mesh banks when it turns a slight corner which I really don't' want.
How can I get the mesh to not bank but stay parallel to the x and z plane as it moves down and around. Should I be using another tool for this?

thanks for any advice.
