Arrow I5 Minute Sketchathon - Thread 2: Sketches

You are invited to the 15 Minute Sketchathon daily events here in the Artistic Anatomy and Figurative Art Forum. How this works:

Everyday, there'll be new poses posted here. You can use any medium you prefer, to draw the pose, but it must be 15 minutes or under. We are usually on freenode irc #cgsociety but you can draw on your own if you can't join. Just use the honor system to time yourself and then post your efforts here after your time is up.

Everyone's got 15 minutes to sketch. So break those sketchpads out and lets have fun.
In a few minutes, I'll be posting the first pose for today.
Come on it will be fun.

Please Note:

All Reference Images for the 15 Minute Sketchathon can be found here:

Thumbs up

Cool! I'll get at it in an hour or so. I've just fallen out of bed, so I'll have to do a few things first.

Coolio. Bonanzathon!

Here's mine:

PS - 15 min. Pic was set to "always on top" in the viewer, next to my work area. Actually I stopped at 15 min and then redid the head because it was waaay off, so that's +30 sec.
My life drawing classes really helped me out here!

Joy!

hello everyone.

@ falcor_ - thanks for your comment. i must say find it hard to know what to do other than just draw what i see - even if i know something is meant to be there in the shadows. too literal-minded i guess! you are producing ever better work - but a shame they're pixelated

@ robomonkeymodule - i really like your first line sketch: i think something happened to the proportions from stage 2 on? Arms seem a bit long, legs a bit short maybe

Aaanyhoo, my next 15 min, still catching up:

Longer studies:

Arm tones:

I loved the pose, so did it again: 1hr w/ zhuzhu's excellent brushes! (did the whole thing this time ):

Thanks for the critiques guys.

Mr. Mu - Thanks! One thing that helps me is having a couple of timers going. I have a 1 min timer I built in Flash that just keeps repeating and beeps once a minute. The other one is my watch and I let it go for about 5 min. Despite keeping the timers, it seems to help me to keep only loose awareness of the time and pay attention as much as I can to just drawing. Timers can produce additional anxiety and I do better when I can relax while focusing. It's been pointed out that there really is no one way to do things, but I'm trying to streamline my process so I can try to isolate and fix mistakes more easily and get faster.

audit - Yeah, you're definitely right about the proportions. I didn't even notice that. It's weird how I seem to get a better feel for certain things in my initial impression but sometimes lose them in later stages. Nice work, btw!

bumskee - Awesome looking work.

I'll be back for another post tomorrow. Peace.

I love this thread and figured this was the best way to submit work on CGtalk and have an excuse for it being sketchie.

Anyhow, I ended up spending 20 minutes because when I looked at the time by ten minutes I swear it only felt like a minute or two before I glanced again, and it was already 20 minutes.
