capturing camera movement interactively

hello

I was looking for some script or so to capture the movement of my camera as I pan or tilt or rotate it into the scene..

I found this :

playbackOptions -min 0 -max 400 -ps 1;
string $curAngleUnits = `currentUnit -q -a`; // Get the current angle units
currentUnit -a rad; // Temporary set to radians
recordAttr -at "rotate" -at "translate"; // Set attributes to record
play -record;
currentUnit -a ($curAngleUnits); // Reset back to defaults



but as the writer says, It crashes maya each time

is there any safe way to capture my view panel movement into translation and rotation of my viewing camera interactively?

well .. seems like Craft Director tool can do this....
I haven't tried its specific camera types...

There's a great app for iOS that captures iPhone movement as camera data for Maya:

That is better for capturing natural motion, if that's what you're looking for. Otherwise, ya, try the Craft Director plugin

Red9 has mouse mocap, but I don't get an answer from them about using the same commands that you mention as buggy. I take the lack of a reply as a confirmation, but if you feel like testing....

Strange I normally reply to most people?
The recordAttr command isn't so much buggy, just has issues with rotate data. I do wrapping in the Red9 implementation but it's still not ideal, nor is it particularly heavily tested, I use it to generate dense data for testing most of the time.
