Quickest way to align 2 points?

So when drawing out a polygon, I usually like to draw a shape out quickly, and then grab a few points and align them.
What's the fastest way to do this?

I know there are a few ways to do this:
I can turn on snapping in a side view and snap the points individually to the grid,
I can open the structure window and enter numerical values,
I can use the Set Point Value tool and use Center or set a value.

But I'd really like a one-action step that simply (for instance) aligns the selected points on the Y axis (not necessarily to the grid.)

Any good ways to do this?

If you're using R14, enable snapping, auto snapping, vertex snapping, guide snap, and dynamic guide ... all in the snaps menu. That way you'll get automatic guides to snap to other points, or if you hover over a second point, you'll be able to get a double snap from both points.

Thanks Adam, I've been poking around with the guides, and haven't yet really figured them out. I can see what's going on, and what they're trying to do, but haven't had much luck yet in getting them to work the way they're supposed to.

Will keep trying.

I'm seeing if I can create a script that will be a one-button press to do what I'm after.
It's doing the following so far:

  CallCommand(200000065); // Set Point Value
  tool()#MDATA_SETVALUE_SETX=0;
  tool()#MDATA_SETVALUE_SETZ=0;
  tool()#MDATA_SETVALUE_SETY=2;

And is setting the X and Z to "Leave" and the Y to "Center"
So far, so good.
But in order for it to do anything, I need to press the Apply button for the tool, and I don't see a way to do that in the script. (When I press the apply button, it works, but nothing shows up in the Script Log.)

Any way to do that in the script?
Thanks
