Writing a Hypershade utility node? How to get started?

I want to try making a simple color correction node for Maya, something that I can plug the RGB channels of a texture into, perform some pixel math like gain and gamma, then output the new color values.

I've never coded for maya, so I'm wondering if there's a tutorial or something I can read that will get me started on creating my own hypershade node.

Thanks!

Reading the source code of Pixero's shaders was a really good starting point for me.

You can take a really simple shader (like the gamma shader) to get the base syntax and then try something more complex

Just what I was looking for - thank you!
