Override openGL color but not material?

I have a few objects that the animators want to see as certain colors.

The openGL display of the object is the usual dark grey but in Vray the carpaint material has its own color but does not show the color I have plugged in the openGL display windows.

What I was thinking was a drawing override. Which works for the wireframe color but not the polygonal surface in the smooth shade view.

I was wondering if there is another way to override the surface shader in openGL without affecting the actual shader at rendertime?

Doh, I can just add the material to a Vray Blend Material and use the Hardware texturing Viewport color option. It leaves the material the same while allowing me to color the openGL how I want.
